A home school online program is in many ways different to that of a regular class as the number of students in the actual class can vary. This is because the students learn their lessons from a cyberspace classroom. For this reason it is possible that students from various parts of the[..]
As a mother of a two year old, the thought of "school" crosses my mind more than occasionally. I have to admit, I don't like what I see. Schools these days have many problems. Violence is growing. The standards aren't high enough to make sure our children are learning. Many parents are not taking their child's education seriously enough or just aren't getting involved. And unfortunately there are teachers and school administrators out there that are more interested in numbers, politics, and money than they are in the welfare of their students. All of these things and other considerations are making more and more parents look into home schooling as an option. This allows parents to spend[..]
Confessions of a Lover of Books and Learning
iv> Many of us love to read. Some of us who love to read the most are introverts, so I went to the source to find out what it’s all about. There’s a great readers’ survey on TheIntrovertzCoach ( ) and yes, Easy Reader that I am, I participated. You're invited to, too! Here are two things that seem to be true of people who have developed a love of reading: ·They were taught to read before they went to school, often by a parent ·Most couldn’t even count the number of books they’ve read in a lifetime. One reader wrote, Almost as many drinks of water as I’ve taken. Can’t begin to guess. Hundreds and thousands seem to be the norm. When a parent[..]
Great News For Home-Schooling Parents
My aunt homeshool her eight children and I always said that if I had any children I would do the same. She had so much fun teaching her children and they also had a bowl staying home and playing in the farm and riding Grandmas horses. That was years ago and I remember my aunt trying to save the pictures she had thrown the children while they home schooled. she had them everywhere and even pasted them on the refrigerator. Then they got married and left the house leaving her sad and trying to find home school memories to remember them. I'm married now and have my own two children and I'm homeschooling them like my aunt did, the only different I discover a product that can save my memories[..]

You need to prepare for the SAT. But it is actually a very easy process. Unlike a midterm or final exam in school, a lot of studying is not really required for the SAT test itself. The exception to this is the SAT Subject Tests, which do focus on particular subjects like science, mathematics,, history, and language. Although not a lot of studying is required for the general SAT Test, there are some prep steps you should take. This is mostly looking over your school notes and taking an SAT Prep class. So, what sections should you focus on? As you already know, the SAT is divided into three main sections- reading, writing, and mathematics. Each section has sub sections inside. For example,[..]

Writing Skills for Children - Better Story...
'You're too early.' This is probably not a phrase we use much with our kids. Wouldn't we love it if they started studying for exams, packing for trips and planning Christmas presents early? However, when it comes to writing, kids often start early - and it is NOT a good idea. It probably means their writing moves too slowly and is full of padding. Here are three examples: 1) Story Starts For some reason, people seem to want to start stories at the beginning of the day, or the start of holidays or even (for autobiographies) at the moment they were born. Yet, often this is a boring time. TOP TIP: Start much LATER when things get interesting - not at the start of the day. Then 'backfill'[..]
Choosing a Homeschooling Curriculum
You have made the decision to home school, now you have to select the curriculum! This is no easy job and can be daunting, so break it down into more manageable pieces and take your time. Knowing your child's learning style will be important. In fact it is where I would start in the process of choosing a curriculum. When I refer to their learning style I mean, do they learn by seeing, or are they the hands on type or are they a combination of the two? Knowing this will help you narrow down which curriculum you should be looking at. A factor for many of us is cost. Curriculum prices will vary greatly, so it is extremely important to know your budget before you begin your search. Different[..]

When kids learned how to count, they basically just learn numbers as some kind of continuum that continues and continues. As they go to a higher level of schooling, children might not understand how it goes in groups of tens and hundreds and thousands. For children to understand place value, otherwise known as the decimal system, they have to learn first how to do simple additions and subtractions with small numbers. Later, you can explain that if you have lots and lots of objects, the efficient way to count them would be in groups, not individually. Here's how you can introduce decimals to kids: 1. You can use white, red, and blue inexpensive poker chips. The white are ones, the blue[..]
BEST Websites for Kids
When I set out to find the best websites for kids I wanted to make sure that the sites had real educational value and were easy to use. I did not want any sites included that asked for any information, not even an email address. Websites that had too much advertising were avoided. And, finally, I wanted the sites to be free or very low cost. I always advise parents to look at any sites before sharing them with your kids so that you know exactly what is on each site. So with that in mind, here are my choices: Starfall Starfall is a website that helps children learn to read. It has everything from learning your ABCs to reading books. The graphics are colorful, attractive and simple to[..]

It has become harder for people to eat healthy, nutritionally balanced meals, and even more so[..]

Pre School Learning With Mom
The Mother Is Crucial In Preschool Teaching Preschool teaching is as important as a classroom. Any one who teaches is a teacher and anyone who learns is a learner. It is a fact that we learn throughout our life and so it is not just the classroom where we get knowledge. We learn something at office, from special situations in life such as a birth or a death, and even from a tribe's way of life in an exotic locale. And what we learn has a deep impact on us, and goes a long way to shape our thoughts and our personality. How we react to situations also depends on what we learn in our life. Reading is the most important element of a child's education because it is a precursor to every other subject. Fall short in this one, and one will struggle with other subjects. Yet if a child is not comprehending, he finds himself in much the same predicament. It is no wonder that parents/ educators are in search of answers to this question. Working with children over the years I have discovered some very useful information: First of all it is important that a child master some degree of reading before teaching comprehension. Teaching division before addition and subtraction is out of step. Teaching comprehension before teaching some degree of reading is the same. So I teach children to[..]

Many home schooling families have a single income as one parent is now home with the kids. On top of that, we pay taxes to support schools that we do not use. Five Reasons Not To Homeschool Your Child
Here are some excellent reasons not to homeschool your child: 1. Your local public school (or charter or private school) is well-maintained and clean, and is supplied with the best materials and equipment. 2. The teachers at your local public school are skilled, kind, understanding, and devoted to your child's education. 3. No bully has set foot on the campus of your local school at any time for the past ten years. 4. Your child loves school, enjoys learning and doing homework, has many friends who are well-mannered and polite, and would rather read an interesting book than play video games. 5. You don't want to. Of the reasons listed above not to homeschool, I think reason #5 is the[..]
Is your kid wary of studying math? Is he having difficulties in staying on the same level as his class? Is he is not getting good grades in the subject, even though he does very well in other subjects? Then, most probably your child needs some special attention to understand math. It is very important to understand the needs of a child because if you fail to connect with the kid then he may develop many psychological problems. How To Write A Homeschool Unit Study
Regardless of what methodology you normally use for your homeschool, unit studies can provide you with a nice break from the norm sometimes. They are especially nice whenever you're trying to teach your child(ren) to think a little more about how the different parts of life actually fit together, and they can also give you a break whenever you're faced with the doldrums. So, how do you decide what subjects to persue whenever you're ready to do a unit study? Well, take a look at your child and see what he/she is deeply interested in. Those are the subjects to pursue with your unit studies. Another way to decide what would make a great unit study is to look through your year's studies[..]
Excellence doesn't seem to be a sought-after quality these days. We see it in our economy ~ when banks and insurance companies need bail-outs as a result of shoddy or irresponsible business practices. We see it in our government - with the ever-increasing amount of debt and ever-decreasing efficiency of operations. We see it in education - when students are promoted despite failing grades; when teachers teach "to the test" and when education as a whole is being "dummed down". Don't believe for a minute that as long as we accept the status quo, allow ourselves to get mired in mediocrity or settle for "whatever", that we will be able to restore our culture or our country to the position of[..]
Creating a Home School Classroom
The decision to home school your child is one that should be applauded as you are taking charge of his or her education. Providing a learning environment that is both comfortable and fun will help your children become engaged in the learning process. Deciding how you want your homeschooled classroom to function and look is essential to creating a learning environment that has structure. Your home school classroom should provide everything you will need to teach. If possible designate a particular room for learning. It is best to avoid any area that may cause disturbances or detract from the learning experience. Rooms with lots of electronics such as televisions, music players and video[..]

My baby can read, seems to be a common theme, from daytime television shows to websites selling the ultimate learning system - this has easily become the scope of the market for parents wanting their children to learn reading at nine months old. In "The Ellen Show", there was a feature where a 5-year old kid was shown to be reading at 13 months old. At five years old, he can already read an entire page of a book clearly and with hardly any effort. When you go online, you will see dozens of "Get my baby to read at 9 months old!" systems which include DVDs, books and other learning materials that parent can use to teach their kids how to read. The principle is that instead of waiting for[..]
Homework and fun are traditionally not used in the same sentence. It is possible for a teacher to make math homework fun or at least enjoyable by being sure the work is at an appropriate difficulty level, not over doing it with workload, and providing a variety of types of assignments that can include challenging, yet interesting and fun games. These tips will remind teachers to step back and keep homework in the proper perspective. TIP ONE - The point of homework is to reinforce what was taught in the class. - Homework is not busy work. It needs to be productive - Homework should be work that can be done independently, meaning they have enough experience with the skill, they can do it[..]
What is Phonological Awareness?
Phonological awareness is the awareness of all of the sounds of language. It is the ability to hear and distinguish sounds. There are five skills involved in phonological awareness. These include: 1. Listening: It is important that children have some basic skills in learning to listen for specific things to begin learning phonological awareness. 2. Words and sentences: Children need to be able to distinguish what a word is and to know that sentences are made up of words. 3. Rhyming: Recognizing rhymes and being able to make their own rhymes is the next step. 4. Syllables: The next step is breaking words into syllables. Children should be able to count syllables and blend them together.[..]
At least for me, Math is one of the most difficult subjects to teach a child. This is especially true if you are homeschooling and you need to be the math teacher. When I started teaching my children, I was worried I would never be able to teach them how to be really good at math considering it isn't exactly my strong point. I was very blessed to come across a program called Singapore Math. I was amazed at how differently they taught math compared to all of the other math programs I have come across. In fact, Singapore Math has been teaching me right along with my children. The concepts are presented in such a way that everyone can learn. Singapore is known for having the highest math[..]
I Hate Fractions
"body"> Fractions are the pits. You know you can't just add or subtract them even though multiplying and dividing them is not too bad. But since addition is the most popular arithmetic operation, that's where the darn problem is. I mean those pesky denominators always get in the way. Yet fractions appear everywhere you look: look at the price of gas, which is hovering about $3.00 per gallon and you see something like "Unleaded Regular - $2.79 9/10"; or take a look at the unit prices in supermarkets and you might see something like 33 ½ cents per pound, or 16 1/3 cents per ounce. Let's face it, you're not escaping these little monsters so you better just get used to them. So[..]
Homebound Schooling For the Well-Being of Your...
Did you realize that well over one million children take part in homebound schooling on an annual basis? This is an amazing achievement, considering the fact that almost all children went through the public educational process just a few short decades ago. Since that time, however, homebound schooling has become the choice for many parents and children alike for a number of different reasons. It has been shown to consistently result in individuals who are balanced and healthy, through their childhood and into their adult years. That is, of course, provided the schooling was done in the proper manner. There's no doubt about the fact that homebound schooling is something that is going[..]
Why Choose Home Tuition Or Group Tutoring?
If you've read one of the other articles, Tuition Centres vs. Home Tutoring, then you'll be familiar with the many advantages that home tutoring has over tuition centres. One of the greatest advantages is, of course, the ratio of teachers to students. With tuition centres, you can have one lone teacher instructing dozens of students. With all the topics and exercises to cover in just an hour or two, how can the tuition teacher cater to the individual needs of every student? Whereas with private home tutoring, one tutor is assigned to one student. The student will receive 100% of the tutor's time, attention and effort. That is why Home Tuition Express focuses heavily on private home[..]
Go Fish! is arguably the absolute most common card game children play. Take this game, with rules well ingrained and turn it into some fun math card games, and your child may never even know you are making them do extra math work at home! Review the rules: Use a standard deck of cards. Deal out five cards, spread the rest on the table. Take turns asking, "Do you have an _____?" If they have it, you get an extra turn, if not, you pick from the cards on the table. If you pick up what you asked for, show it and get another turn. A book all four cards the same number. Anytime you make a book, place it on the table and get another turn. Scoring is five points for each number card, ten points[..]
In preparation of reading comprehension activity books created for children and then onward transmission/submission to various organisations or for free availability as downloads on various websites an inordinate amount of time is spent researching age-appropriate content for children. This same principle applies to the formal education system. The public domain resources available on the internet today are an excellent source of materials with which to begin one's research, and to source age appropriate material with which to educate young children by way of reading comprehension. One soon realises that there is little difference between early education and that of today - schools are[..]
Are you looking for a way to homeschool in the woods? Has the weather turned warm and you're having a hard time keeping your children interested in their studies? Take your boys hiking. A few hours of outdoor education is a great way to exercise their bodies while learning an amazing amount of things about the world we live in. Things for boys to learn about while on a hike: - Animal tracks - Botany - identify flowers, trees, grass - Geology - identify different rocks, minerals, soil - Insects - identify. Which ones would be edible in an emergency situation? - Biology - identify mammals, reptiles, birds, etc. Before you go, you may want to consult a trail map for the area you're planning[..]
God Will Never Forget - A Fun Scripture...
In one of my devotions this week with C. H. Spurgeon, (my favorite devotional author) I was reminded of how God will never forget His promises to us. The Scripture was Genesis 9: 13-15 where God tells Noah that the rainbow will be a covenant or a promise between Himself and all the earth that He will never send a world wide flood on the earth again. But the clincher of this passage is in verse 15 where God says that when HE looks at the rainbow, He will not forget His promise. So, you see, God's promises are not dependent upon OUR remembrance, but upon HIS. Praise the Lord! Here's an activity that will use the colors of the rainbow to remind your children that even though we might forget[..]
Mastery Learning - What a Struggling Student Needs
There are two main learning approaches that are typically used in public and private schools: Mastery Learning and Spiral Learning. From what I have seen, Spiral Learning is the most common approach to learning, yet research has shown Mastery Learning to be one of the most effective methods. Children who are struggling benefit the most from a Mastery Learning approach to a subject. You may be asking yourself, "What is Mastery Learning?" The simplest definition of Mastery Learning is when a child achieves the understanding and the ability to do certain skills in a subject area, moving ahead only after showing a high competency level in those skills. During the process, a child is always[..]
How to Homeschool Your Baby
New parents that already know they will home school their child can begin this amazing journey at birth. Since the most formative years are the early years, parents should use this time to lay a strong foundation for learning from birth to five years old. The first and most important step new parents can take is to be sure to begin reading to their baby as early as possible. It is important to have plenty of books around so reading to your baby is just as natural as feeding your baby each day. Reading to your baby helps them to understand written language, new vocabulary and it expands their imaginations since you can travel to a different place and time in a book. According to a very[..]
Summer is not far off and finding an array of fun summer learning activities will not only engage your child but can help ward off summer learning loss. You are like most families, preparing for the summer vacation break from school. Your child has progressed nicely through the academics of the current school year and is looking forward to a break. School provides a routine for learning and practicing material. What happens to this routine during the summer? Research shows that students lose a month of academic achievement over the summer months. That means that they retain 8 months of information from a typical 9 month school year. For computational math and spelling, they may lose 2.6[..]
Top Reading Do's and Don't When Teaching Your...
What are the best ways to ensure that your young child loves reading and doesn't find it a daunting task and a chore? The top thing you can do is set an example. If you show how you value reading, enjoy it and your child can see the benefits then they are much more likely to see reading as an integral part of everyday life. Show your child how useful reading is. Read for information, read recipes, read on the internet, read the post, magazines, instructions and newspapers. Demonstrate how to find things out and how essential reading is to help us do things. Start a book collection for your child. Start with the library and then buy your child's favorite authors books. Leave the books on[..]
Home School Vs Traditional School - What's Your...
It is certainly a big day for any family to pack off the little one for his first day at school. But the tantrums thrown around, may mar the occasion. This is mainly due to the child psychology. The little one may be resistant to the change in environment from the cozy environs of home to the unknown world outside. It is here where Home Schooling plays a vital role in comforting the impressionable mind of the little one. If you are prepared for it, Home Schooling can be a great experience for you, but most of the parents give up even before the first year is over. This could be due to the inability to control the over pampered child, and make him/her lead a disciplined routine followed[..]
Students will lose interest in preschool lessons if they are not direct and focused. Lessons should have a clear purpose, and teachers should remind students of the lesson multiple times. Just as in speechmaking, teachers should tell students what they are going to learn, teach them, and then tell them what they learned. By repeating preschool lessons multiple times throughout the day or over a series of days, the material sinks in better for students and encourages retention. By forcing the lesson to be repeated, it also helps the teacher focus on the most important aspects of the lesson. Age Appropriate There are some lessons that are simply too advanced for preschoolers because of[..]
Homeschool High School - Improving Your...
Many homeschool parents are concerned that their child's SAT scores might be low if they have not yet finished Algebra 2. They will wonder if they would be better off rushing through Algebra 2 at break-neck speed, hoping to increase their child's test scores. I do think that your SAT scores may be negatively affected if you haven't started or are only half way through Algebra 2. When finished with that course, math section scores should increase. It can help if you re-take the test in June, rather than March or May. That will allow for the maximum amount of time to learn Algebra 2 and practice the math portion. I don't recommend accelerating through Algebra 2, though. The test does not[..]
What inspires you to write??? Maybe seeing a gorgeous sunset or hearing your favorite song on the radio... What might inspire a classroom full of children to write? Interesting music? Amusing pictures? Creative story prompts? Colorful lighting? Teachers often get very creative inventing ways to get children in the mood to write. Depending on the writing assignment, children may not need much encouragement, but there are times when writers need to be inspired. Creating a writing atmosphere in the classroom can be as simple as assembling a Writing Time Basket full of writing motivators such as mechanical pencils, colorful erasers, journals, a timer, etc. Students will know that writing[..]

You can purchase the materials and teach them yourself or let them learn the material online. There are some sites that you can take the classes online and they will furnish everything that you need in the tuition price. The children will be taught online and use the printed material in conjunction with the courses. And then you can school your child at home online tuition free. Homeschool Classroom Checklist
Now that you have decided that you are going to homeschool your children, you are going to need a classroom, or at least, a reasonable facsimile. I don't want to suggest that you use the spare bedroom or empty out the garage. Most folks use the kitchen or dining room table as a desk for both the teacher and their children. What I do suggest is that you get some sort of portable wagon so that you can store your often use materials in one place. Space is usually at a premium in the homeschool classroom so you will need something convenient and easily portable. When you are ready to set up your materials for the day it will be a lot easier if you have everything in one place. When[..]
